AITAH for walking out on Christmas dinner because my Aunt has it out for me?
  • 03
Hey y'all, I need some advice. I'm 20 and from Alabama, and Christmas is usually my favorite time of year. But this year, dinner at my grandma's house was a mess, and I'm not sure if I overreacted.

So my aunt (we'll call her Karen because it fits) has always been kinda ride. She's the type to smile while she's insulting you, you know? Well, as soon as I

Then during dinner, she kept going. I grabbed seconds of sweet potato casserole, and she said something like, "Enjoy it while your metabolism still works." Later, when we were

I tried to stay calm, but when she made a comment about how I'm still single because "guys don't like girls who talk too much,” I had enough. I stood up, said, "Merry Christmas, y'all," and walked out.

My mom texted me later saying I embarrassed the family by making a scene, but I feel like Karen was the one being ride. Some of my cousins are on my side, but others say I should've just ignored her.

alv269 11h ago Top 1% Commenter NTA. Nobody should have to sit around taking ab e from people all day. Instead of stooping to her level and making a scene, you simply left. Karen is the one that ruined the holiday with her rudeness.

Everytime you call her on it you call attention to it, and eventually others are calling her on it.

You're NTA, but if you want to see the rest of your family you're going to need to give that energy back to her pathetic self. And I always recommend some self medicating. I usually go for a "walk" with the cool cousins.

Why? because I don't appreciate any of my own family unnecessary calling me out / critiquing me on my clothes, food habits, education choices and boyfriends - it is a tough enough world out there and I am working my backside off to get through college.
